![]() Returning home to Lansing, they began their life together in student housing at MSC while Pete completed his studies. A most unwelcome event, they had to use their marriage license money to pay their ticket! However, they continued their quest and were married two weeks later on June 17, 1955, spending a memorable honeymoon in St. On a summer day in 1955, they were on their way to the court house in downtown Lansing to get married when they were cited for jay walking. It was an unfortunate night as Mary’s blood sugar dropped too low and she literally passed out.Īs their dating relationship turned into love, Mary and Peter decided to get married. Before long they began dating, and on one of their very first dates together they talked so long they missed dinner. Known to be quite a flirt, Peter was rather quiet when he met Mary. In 1953 while attending an event at the local YMCA, Mary met the handsome elevator operator there named Peter Baker, a young journalism student at MSC. While attending MSC she met her lifelong friends, Mary Ellen and Grace.įollowing her graduation in 1950, Mary went to work as a Medical Technician for Sparrow Hospital. Her parents later moved to the Lansing area so they could be near her. She was an excellent student and excelled in her studies there. Mary left home to attend Michigan State College in Lansing, Michigan. Mary was a member of the National Honor Society and she excelled at local spelling bees. Before long, Mary attended Clawson High School and graduated with honors in 1944. Her mother, Lula Waits Fox, was a homemaker, and although she claimed to be deaf, she always made out what was going on in other areas of the house. His membership in the Grange, an agricultural organization, quite often proved to be helpful, too. Mary was born at home in Birmingham, Michigan (Troy Township) to Charles Fox and Lula Waits Fox.Ī carpenter by trade, Mary’s father, Charles Fox, continually sought out work. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered as a devoted wife, dedicated mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Patient and reserved, Mary found joy simply being at home working on good crossword puzzles. She never asked for much, and was quite content to be involved in the lives of her family, her church and with her work. ![]() Educated and intelligent, Mary was quiet in nature, and enjoyed taking care of her family. Mary Baker lived her life with quiet strength. ![]()
